The official website of Crime Writer and BBC Crime Correspondent Simon Hall

Hello to readers in America! This is your dedicated section of the site. Simon welcomes you and thanks you for dropping in. He's very proud to be published in your fine country.

The American edition of The Death Pictures has been warmly praised by US reviewers -

As an American crime reporter, it was great fun reading “The Death Pictures” by BBC crime correspondent Simon Hall. The book is a gripping, well-paced mystery with scenes and characters that could have been lifted from any tv newsroom in the United States . I was impressed with Hall’s accuracy and his crafting of the relationships between the reporter and his police sources.

Simon is also offering the opportunity for an American to be immortalized in his next book, Evil Valley, due out in the States in 2009. Whether it's you, a friend, or a member of the family, he needs an American tourist to offer Dan and Adam a vital clue, and it could be the name you choose that features. If you'd like to enter the competition, please go to the website of Simon's publishers - Accentextras.com - and tell us, in no more than 30 words, why it should be the name you're proposing.

Simon has recorded a video, giving an introduction to his books, and their setting. To see it, click here.

Simon's books are all set in and around Plymouth, Devon, a city with strong ties to America.

The Death Pictures contains a bonus feature - Accent Extras - giving a taste of the links between Plymouth, Devon and America, an interview with Simon, and questions and ideas for Readers Groups to get more from the book.

Every year, Plymouth and Devon welcome thousands of American tourists to relive some of our four hundred years of historic connections. If you're planning a trip, we hope the historical links page will give you an idea for places to visit. Please feel free to get in touch with Simon via the contact page on the website if you're intending to come to Devon. If his reporting work allows, he'd be delighted to try to arrange a special talk for groups of visitors.

An Unnecessary Murder
The premiere of Simon's first attempt at writing a play! An Unneccessary Murder is based on the tvdetective books, including the familiar characters, but with a brand new storyline. It opens at the Barnfield Theatre in Exeter on Weds, 25th April 2012 and runs for four nights. The play is a charitable performance, with all money raised going to Hospiscare.
